Croce, Benedetto
► (1886-1952) Filósofo e historiador italiano. Su filosofía está inspirada en el idealismo de Hegel y en Vico. Autor de Materialismo histórico y economía marxista, Estética como ciencia de la expresión (1902) y Filosofía del espíritu. Como historiador escribió Historia de Italia desde 1871 hasta 1915.

Patriota, esteta, historiador de la cultura y crítico italiano. En 1903 fundó La Crítica, influyente revista de crítica cultural, y fue su editor hasta 1937. Apasionado antifascista, contribuyó a revivir las instituciones liberales en los años que siguieron a la segunda guerra mundial. Una de esas instituciones fue el partido liberal, que dirigió de 1943 a 1952. En 1947 fundó el Instituto Italiano de Estudios Históricos. Su obra filosófica ha sido influyente en estética y en los estudios sobre Giambattista Vico, que Croce contribuyó a revivir.
